History Is Explored -- and Made --

at Kehillah Schechter Academy

Governor Michael and Kitty Dukakis and His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios joined 200 guests on May 2nd at Kehillah Schechter Academy for the Israel Arbeiter Gallery event, Everyday Heroes: The Power of Truth, Knowledge and History.

The program explored the story of a courageous Greek woman who risked her own life tosave a Jewish family from the Nazis through a specially-produced film, "In the Shadow of the Acropolis" and

included commentary by two descendants of those who were saved. Highlighting the evening were keynote speakers Governor Michael and Kitty Dukakis who talked about their own Greek-Jewish roots and Kitty's work on the US Holocaust Commission.

The event itself was historic with guests His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios, Metropolis of Boston, the spiritual leader of the region's Greek Orthodox community and Reverend Father Demetrios Tonias, Ecumenical Officer of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis in attendance. This marked the first time that the highest-ranking prelate of the region's Greek Orthodox Church visited a Jewish day school.
